A UK-based Group and well established
leader in the design, manufacture, supply and installation of structural
products requires a Chief Engineer.
Our client is poised for growth
through world-beating and innovative processes & products. Investment
in 2D & 3D design software & an automated manufacturing facility
gives the business a leading competitive edge.
Responsible for leading and
managing teams of engineers, the successful candidate must have Chartered
Engineer status and is likely to have M.Eng or B.Eng as a minimum in either
Structural or Civil Engineering.
With substantial post graduate
track records in all major structural materials, the successful candidate
will have specialist knowledge of design of concrete including framed
structures, cross wall, beam and column and hybrid frames. Design of pre-stressed
components is ideal together with knowledge of interaction with major
structural materials, involving vibration, sound, non rigid supports,
diaphragm action and structural stability.
Candidates must be able to
demonstrate a record of successful Continuing Professional Development
and a working knowledge of the latest technical developments, construction
industry standards and current legislation.
Day to day tasks will include
quality assurance audits, offering general technical guidance, providing
problem-solving in response to technical queries and the management &
support of remote contracted-out design providers involving in-depth knowledge
of technical standards. There will be a need to work closely with colleagues
in Contract Management and in Manufacturing, as well as Finance and Sales.
This role is client-facing
requiring a proven track record in project and financial management, leadership
and business development. Candidates with the required engineering qualifications
as well as highly developed interpersonal skills and a collaborative working
style are preferred. Prospects for career advancement to more senior roles
are a reality for the competent, driven and successful appointee.

The Role
- Reporting to the Operations
Manager, responsible for a team of 10;
- Responsible for all aspects
of quality including supplier, contract, customer and operational issues;
- Responsible for developing,
improving and managing the business quality management system, and for
monitoring, reviewing and reporting its performance against set KPIs;
- Develop, maintain &
manage systems to establish standards covering all stages of the business
process and products and to measure performance against established
standards including internal & external auditing;
- Monitor performance as required
according to agreed standards and take necessary action to communicate,
advise & assist according as appropriate;
- Monitor performance, working
collaboratively throughout the organisation to ensure that the Company's
Quality Plan and Procedures are functioning correctly & provide
training, tools and techniques to enable others to achieve the required
quality levels within the business;
- Promote the achievement
of required standards and a continuous improvement ethos throughout
the business;
- Ensuring compliance with
all relevant national and international standards and legislation including
that governing product safety, the environment and health & safety
requirements;
- Plan and manage departmental
activities in accordance with agreed budgets and timescales;
- Optimisation of manpower,
equipment and other available resources to achieve total customer satisfaction,
first time and every time;
- Planning and implementation
of training and development including recruitment of suitably qualified
staff as required.
The Candidate
- Competent, capable and experienced
in the field of quality control, quality assurance and the implementation
of ISO9000;
- A natural coach and team
builder who enjoys developing and leading others to improve their performance
coupled with a well-developed ability to implement and drive performance
improvement;
- Effective communicator with
exceptional interpersonal skills capable of liaising with all internal
levels, customers and suppliers alike;
- Computer literate including
proprietary management information systems and Microsoft Office;
- Conversant with statutory
regulations governing Health & Safety;
- Degree qualified with a
recognised Quality Assurance/Quality Management qualification.

The Role
- Reporting to the CEO, the
role holder will be responsible for the provision of a full generalist
HR service to the business delivering to Headquarters and 3 operational
sites with approximately 550 employees;
- To deliver a comprehensive
HR service including employee relations, employee resourcing, provision
of personnel administration and learning and development;
- To provide an effective
recruitment and selection service, to senior level including job advertising,
shortlisting, interview screening, psychometrics, assessment centres,
reference clearance and the induction process;
- To contribute to the development
and implementation of HR strategy and policy and give a strategic HR
perspective regarding business development and planning;
- To facilitate and manage
business reorganisations and change programmes including appropriate
consultation, communication, selection/de-selection methodologies etc;
- To be responsible for team
management activities including the Performance Management process and
coaching and development;
- To provide full support
to the Business Units for any Employment Tribunals including preparation
of case, liaison with legal bodies, consideration of costs and proposal
for business, witness statements, employee coaching for Tribunal proceedings
etc;
- To provide the operational
team with accurate and up to date HR advice on Employment legislation
ensuring Company policies and procedures are followed and implemented;
- To lead and performance
manage a small HR team, including planning monitoring and control of
budgets;
- With other members of the
Management Team, plan annual workforce requirements and ensure that
the appropriate recruitment strategies are developed and implemented
successfully;
- Undertake disciplinary,
grievance or other investigations, and produce clear written reports
and recommendations.
The Candidate
- An effective communicator,
self confident and resourceful individual, capable of managing own HR
small team and working with others possessing energy, drive, adaptability
and outstanding organisational & planning skills;
- With substantial experience
and in-depth knowledge of HR Management at a HR Managerial level within
manufacturing or other relevant business environment, including employment
law, industrial relations, HR policies and procedures such as performance
management, disciplinary, grievances, and redundancy selection issues;
- Experienced in managing
and providing advice on sensitive employee relations matters and HR
policy issues;
- Possessing knowledge of
legislation, capable of advising on HR activities, including current
and forthcoming UK law changes;
- Computer literate/and proficient
in use of Microsoft and HR packages;
- MCIPD essential, degree
qualified or equivalent preferred with a full driving license.
