Warehouse Manager           Salary £50 - 60,000 + car             Ref:CT010710

An exciting opportunity to lead and manage a unique warehousing operation has arisen on the edge of the Lake District. Confident and able to provide inspirational leadership for all on site, the successful applicant will be responsible for the activities in running a customer-responsive and efficient 90,000 square foot distribution centre fulfilling multi-channel retail businesses. The successful candidate must have a track record of promoting a positive team spirit as well as developing and nurturing constructive relationships with Head Office teams. Responsibilities include all warehousing functions, including 200 employees during peak activity, implementing change and engendering a culture of continuous improvement.

The Role

  • To lead the warehouse to deliver a customer focussed and cost efficient service to the business encompassing efficient receipt, storage and dispatch of goods for multi-channel operations;
  • To provide effective leadership of people, processes and systems whilst ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements;
  • To aid in the delivery of Company strategy maximising efficiency and minimising costs;
  • To provide a customer-responsive and efficient warehouse operation;
  • To develop financial and operational KPIs and deliver in line with targets;
  • To ensure full compliance and adherence to all external legislation and internal policies and procedures;
  • To drive a staff development and retention strategy that supports the warehouse team in developing to their full potential.

The Candidate

  • A self-reliant, visible, operational leader with energy, self-discipline, drive, adaptability, creativity, problem solving and decision-making capabilities, capable of delivering against key cost and performance objectives, whilst fostering a team culture;
  • Able to implement, drive and embed performance improvement using Continuous Improvement tools, including Lean, KPIs and visual management;
  • Inquisitive, questioning, a willing learner, able to understand the "nuts and bolts" of the operation, capable of igniting and maintaining a working rapport and inspiring confidence amongst all;
  • Ardently customer focused, with a proven track record in delivering and exceeding expectations in operational/distribution environments;
  • A rigorous planner, capable of defining and co-ordinating work plans, combining short and long term tasks with strategic objectives, effectively delegating responsibilities to others as appropriate;
  • Comfortable and experienced in man-management, a natural coach and team-builder with exceptional interpersonal skills who enjoys developing and leading others to improve their performance;
  • Financially competent, able to read business accounts, construct and work to budgets and develop capital expenditure plans;
  • Implementing and maintaining standards of health and safety, hygiene and security in the work environment;
  • Computer literate including proprietary supply chain management information systems and Microsoft Office.

Previous Experience & Qualifications

  • A proven track record of achievement in operations management, preferably in logistics and distribution;
  • Accomplished in culture change through continuous improvement methodologies.

Our client, a specialist operational improvement consultancy, is seeking a Business Improvement Consultant, with manufacturing and continuous improvement experience underpinned by highly-developed interpersonal skills. The consultancy, part of a global business with operations in more than 100 countries, helps process industry companies improve the effectiveness of their manufacturing operations, meaning the successful applicant must have an understanding of changing behaviour, enhancing competencies and introducing new working practices.

The Role

  • Ensure all health, safety and environmental requirements are adhered to and that work areas are set for safe working;
  • Manage and organise activities for most effective working;
  • Ensure assignment delivery and quality requirements are met;
  • Ensure up-to-date and accurate practice information is provided when requested and in a timely manner;
  • Communicate business requirements as required;
  • Liaise with practice support staff as required;
  • Ensure all company procedures are adhered to and followed;
  • Active development of new products and services;
  • Active support of new business sales activity and development of sales proposals;
  • Manage client relationships on behalf of the organisation generally;

The Candidate

  • Will have a preferred working style of being facilitative, participative and process driven as well as values driven;
  • Proven ability in facilitating change projects, focussing on lean manufacturing/continuous improvement/team working strategies;
  • Competent leader and manager with well-developed consultancy and communication skills;
  • Sound understanding and in-depth knowledge of change management;
  • Experience as an internal or external change manager;
  • A sound understanding and in-depth knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement;
  • Able to work at all levels within an organisation from shop floor to boardroom;
  • Experience of establishing and managing client relationships either on an internal or external basis;
  • Computer literate including proprietary management information systems and Microsoft Office;
  • Willing to travel and work away from home, sometimes for extended periods, including internationally;
  • Drives own personal development and training as appropriate.

Previous Experience & Qualifications

  • Substantial experience in a line management position preferably in a manufacturing environment;
  • Sound experience in preferably two or more of the following sectors: pharmaceutical, chemical, oil & gas, pulp, paper or metals industries;
  • Proven track record in new business development;
  • Degree in an appropriate technical or managerial discipline essential;
  • Masters degree in an appropriate discipline and/or Business Studies at diploma level or above preferred.
